CV Welcomes a New Vice Principal

By JESSICA LOPEZ

Scott Nelson said goodbye to being a band teacher at Citrus Valley and has recently taken over the role as the new Vice Principal.  A short interview was conducted to gain some insight on his new position at Citrus Valley.

How long have you been teaching band?

A: “ Seventeen and a half years. As long as most of our students have been alive or less. So a long time. And like I said I was here in ‘09 when we opened, that is what is so intriguing about being in this spot and I love our kids and faculty.”

Is there anything you are going to miss about teaching?

A: “ I’ll miss tons about teaching. The hourly interactions with kids, just the way high school works where every hour or every two hours on block days is a new group and a new exciting adventure. The band, orchestra, color guard, and piano students are really wonderful kids. I’ll miss teaching on a regular basis.”

What are you most excited about in your new position?

A: “What I’m most excited about is having different forms of leadership on campus. I’ve been at Citrus Valley since we’ve opened so I believe in our school, I believe in C.L.A.S.S, and the Blackhawk way. This is a unique opportunity to have a wider influence on how I can be a part of continuing what we started with our school and taking it to the future.”

What is your goal as CV’s new Vice Principal?

A: “I think, I bring an interesting perspective because  I’m the first administrator that has taught here and is now in administration. So a blend of what we’ve started with, as far as C.L.A.S.S and the Blackhawk way, all of that allow mentally keeping it going but finding ways to expand our programs. We have such great kids, so we must keep the C.L.A.S.S going. I think that’s what makes us special.”
