Top 5 performance cars on a budget

By RICHARD BUNNER

Lists like these are everywhere, but only a few of those cars are truly affordable budget beasts. Today, the budget is only $5000, and although these are not supercar killers for cheap, they can give you great power or handling to help you have a bit more fun than just driving a hand-me-down.

 Best Years: 1994-2006

Usual Price: $1500-$5000

With the Acura Integra and RSX being one of the most common tuner cars on the street, it’s not hard to go out and spot one. Their popularity is not just due to the courtesy of the incredible amounts of aftermarket support from brands such as Spoon and GReddy, but also because of their dual-overhead cam engines with VTEC technology and lightweight. They are a great way to get into a good handling coupe for a good price.

The Mazda Miata is a legend for its perfect 50/50 Weight distribution, epic handling capabilities, and iconic pop-up headlights. It does not, by any means, make much power stock, but bolt on engine mods are aplenty and acceleration can be improved by some easy weight reduction.
