Chris Albrecht has been a three-season athlete since his freshman year. He has been on the Football and Wrestling teams for four years, the Track team for three and has recently joined the coeducational Cheer team. As a senior, he has become a leader on and off the field by becoming a Football captain and the Wrestling team captain. As a constant figure on the football team he helped lead his freshman team to an undefeated season as well as a successful senior season this past year. On the Wrestling team he has been able to win back-to-back Citrus Belt League Championship titles in his weight class and has helped lead the team as they transition from one coach to a new one.
Off the field and the mat, Chris has been a part of Redlands East Valley’s AVID program and has taken multiple Advanced Placement classes. With his involvement in multiple areas of school he has become a person that underclasssmen, especially those on the football team, look up to. Chris has maintained good grades and with his involvement in school he is planning to attend a four-year university in the fall.
While he has many accomplishments, his biggest one has been leading the Wrestling team. After the previous coach left the program, the team was left without a coach until Mr. Holcombe, a science teacher, took up the position. This left a lot of questions going into the season. Despite that, Chris was able to help the new coach acclimate into the wrestling environment and the team was able to take fourth place in CBL this season. Chris enjoys the sport because, ”it is the only combat sport that a teenager can participate in while in high school.” Chris was able to have an undefeated senior season, win CBL and move on to the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section tournament. Chris says the biggest honor was being able to be a leader on the team in a sport he most dearly loves.
For the spring season Chris has decided to join the Cheer team instead of being on the Throwing team. Albrecht and his friends can be seen participating in their new sport at the Prom Rally on April 12.
