Redlands East Valley High School’s Track and Field Starts With a Spring in Their Step

By LEA CLARK

Break out the mats and then it’s just a hop, skip and a jump into the season, and the Redlands East Valley Track and Field Jumpers know just how to spring into the start of the season. This week as Redlands East Valley goes against Carter High School in its first meet of the season, REV will try to take them on in the Triple Jump, the Long Jump, and the High Jump. To get a sense of how our athletes are feeling, listen to what current High Jump athlete, Carson Saunders says.

Q: How do you feel about this season?
“I feel that I still need to improve with the run up, but otherwise I am feeling pretty confident about this year.”

Q:Do you have any goals you have set for this season?
“I am hoping to hit 5’6” by the end of the season.”

Q:Have any other things to say as you head into the season?
“I’m going to be famous.”

Following up, here’s what Long Jump athlete, Avery Guerrola says about his current season’s aspirations.

Q:How do you feel about this season?
“We have a lot of really good jumpers so I think we are going to do well.”

Q:Do you have any goals set for this season?
“No, not really.”

Q:Have any other things to say as you head into the season?
“That hopefully we win all of our meets.”

Finally, here’s what High Jump athlete Clayshia Hill says.

Q:How do you feel about this season?
“I feel (like) this season is going to be a good one, we have a lot more girl jumpers this year than last year.”

Q:Do you have any goals set for this season?
“Just to PR (Personal Record) at every race.”

Q:Have any other things to say as you head into the season?
“Sounds cliché, but I hope that we all, the track team, are united not only as a team, but as a family.”

Although Redlands East Valley does not have any Pole Vaulters because of the expenses, we can still wish our fellow students the best of luck in winning this Wednesday. As our athletes head out to Carter, our sprinters do the 400 meter dash, 200 meter dash, the 100 meter dash. Distance runners in the 800 meter dash, 1 mile, and 2 mile along with 400 meter relays and 1600 meter relays by “blooming” to the finish line. Then, “sprouting” from their arms, throwers will participate in the Shotput and Discus. Finally, “bunny hopping” away to the finish, the hurdlers will “spring” to the finish in the 110 meter hurdles, and the 300 meter hurdles. If you want to come support REV’s team and “sprout” your way over, then head over to Carter High School this Wednesday and help “March” off the new season!
