Lady Wildcats Warm Up in the Pre-Season

BY OLU-EBUBE MEIGS

Girls’ basketball pre-season is heating up as promising young ladies get ready and conditioned for the upcoming season.

In the past, ladies who play for the Redlands East Valley girls’ basketball program have been contenders for Citrus Belt League titles, won numerous tournaments, played uncountable play-off games, and have gone on to further their careers in basketball.

Last season, for example, Natalie Ruhl broke the most points scored record in girl’s basketball and was recruited to Cal Lutheran University to further her undergraduate education as a freshman player this upcoming season.

Currently, Lady Wildcats are working on improving their strength, agility, and quickness in fall conditioning, along with mastering fundamentals every 6th period during the week to perform well this winter.

Some talented players to look for in the upcoming season are Daniella Popa, center, Lisette Gonzales, shooting guard, Maddie Gray, small forward, and Reyna Lucero, power forward. These Lady Wildcats all played last year in the Varsity program and are making moves to improve their standing in the upcoming season.

Every Wednesday, the Lady Wildcats go to open gym to get better at their game, and they scrimmage other schools every Saturday.

This Saturday, Sept. 24, the Lady Wildcats play Beaumont High School and Martin Luther King Jr. High School in Riverside.

They also have upcoming tournaments in October, November, and December, along with another official tryout in October.

The official CBL season starts in January.
