On April 3, the Loma Linda Children’s Hospital hosted the Family Fitness Fun 5k Walk/Run & Expo. This event was hosted at the Burrage Mansion located in Redlands. The Family Fitness 5K was presented by the organization, Big Hearts for Little Hearts.
Big Hearts for Little Hearts is an organization that strives to bring awareness and support to the Loma Linda Children’s Hospital. The money raised from this race benefits the patients of Loma Linda Children’s Hospital.
Participants signed up for a race in the morning, and then had the opportunity to go and look around at an expo which included booths donating free items. There were also many different game stations set up for the children to play. Some of the vendors included Coco’s, Crossfit East Redlands, Fox Dance Studio, plus many more.
The boy who “kicked off” the race with the blow of his air horn, was 9 year old Alex Miller. He and his family were the guests of honor. Alex Miller was diagnosed with Ventricular Septal Defect, a very rare heart disorder.
His doctor’s did not know if he was going to be able to make it to his first birthday. With the help of multiple surgeries, a pacemaker, and a mitral valve replacement, Alex is now a happy and healthy 9 year old.
Cheryl Slaton, a LLUCH board member says, “Alex Miller and his family were chosen to be this year’s guests of honor and kick off the race because Alex is just one example of the many healing miracles that happen everyday at Loma Linda Hospital.”
