REV Tennis Team Attends Tournament

By AARON HILL
The BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden is the most attended tennis tournament,  besides the four Grand Slam tournaments, in the world.  Hundreds compete there every year, including the world’s top ranked tennis players.  This is largely because it is a Masters 1000 event on the men’s American Tennis Professional tour, as well as a premier mandatory event on the women’s tennis association tour.  On March 16th, the REV tennis team attended this tournament to witness all of the great skill.

The team saw the world’s top players in practice including Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, whom are ranked #1 and #5 in the world respectively.  Teammates saw matches between some of the greatest tennis players, such as Stan Wawrinka and Tomas Berdych who are ranked #4 and #7 in the world respectively.  They even met the coach of Serena Williams, the number #1 ranked female singles player in the world,  Patrick Mouratoglou.

Head Coach Ed Stark coordinated this event, along with his assistant coach and team parents.  The intention of the trip was for the team to see some of the greatest tennis players in the world.  The coaches wanted the team to learn and grow from the experience, so that they in turn could apply this knowledge to their own play and excel in future matches.  Junior Team Captain Ryan Hutchins said “I think watching the tournament was a great learning experience for everyone.  That of course was on top of the fact we all had a great time watching our favorite sport.”

This was not a school based or school coordinated event.
