Learn more about Citrus Valley’s Assistant Principal, Wes Cullen.
A: “This is my fifth year at Citrus Valley.”
Q: Where did you attend high school and college and what did you major in?
A: “I went to Redlands High School and graduated in 1997. I attended UC San Diego and my major was Political Science with a minor in Spanish Literature.”
Q: What has being an Assistant Principal taught you as an individual?
A: “There are all kinds of different people in this world and they all have different needs, struggles and strengths. It has also taught me that helping people is one of the most rewarding things you can do in this world.
Q: What is one of the most challenging things about being an assistant principal? And the most rewarding?
A: “Every person is different and needs different things at different times. So trying to figure out how to help people is not always a one size fits all solution. The most rewarding part of my job is being around awesome kids and teachers everyday.”
Q: What are some of your jobs/responsibilities as an assistant principal?
A: “Up until January I was in charge of the security, custodians, facilities, technology, AP testing, english learners, cheerleading, library and textbooks. Mr. Nelson took over the jobs I had, and I am now in charge of the jobs Dr. Lock had. I am now responsible for SBAC testing, CST testing, attendance, the special education department, tardy letters, and teacher meetings on Tuesdays.”
Q: Most memorable moment you have experienced at Citrus Valley?
A: “Most memorable moment I have had at Citrus Valley was when the special education kids performed at the rally and all of the students put on the flashlights on their phone supporting them. I have never seen that kind of support on a school campus before and that is another reason why CV kids are the best. Everyone came together to support them, that was an awesome moment.”
Q: What is your life outside of school like?
A: “I have a 2 year old son and my wife is going to have a baby girl next week. So that takes up a lot of my time.”
Q: What has been your favorite thing about being the Assistant Principal at Citrus Valley?
A: “Citrus Valley kids are the best kids anywhere. I have been at a couple of middle schools and taught at a high school in town and the CV kids are the best overall. The culture here is awesome.”
Citrus Valley is grateful to have an Assistant Principal that is dedicated to not only his job, but also the students. Thank you Mr. Cullen!
