REV Boys Basketball Wins Share of CBL Title

By PAUL VILLAGRANA
The 2015-16 season was quite a memorable one for the REV boys’ basketball team, as they achieved their third Citrus Belt League title in the school’s history.

The team earned this behind a great deal of hard work and dedication that they had put throughout the entire season.

Senior captain and shooting guard, Ryan Aranda, stated, “We trained non-stop through the spring, summer and fall to prepare for the winter season.” The team wanted to make strides towards another CBL title, which was a goal right from the beginning of the season. They, “did not want to be denied of the title,” which they had worked so hard for during the off-season.

The run that the Wildcats made this season wouldn’t have been done without the great work of the coaches, who helped prepare their team day by day, making each practice as intense as possible, and preparing them for upcoming games by having the team study game-films of the opposing team.

The seniors played a key role in helping develop the lower classmen by aiding them in their adjustment to the varsity level of competition, as they, “pushed them to work harder” in practice. The upperclassmen, who were once in the shoes of these sophomores and juniors, wanted to ensure that these underclassmen would have no regrets at the end of their high school careers as to what they accomplished.

The team has a great deal of young talent, from their pass-first point guard, Bryce Lawson (Jr.), to the star power-forward, Kim Aiken (Jr.). REV will have two starters coming back to the team next year, with five returners total.

After a long season, the team ended with a league record of 12-2, which was enough to capture a share of the CBL title with Cajon High School. REV would advance to the quarterfinals of the CIF-Southern Section playoffs before falling to La Mirada.
