This year Redlands East Valley High School gained a new band director, Mr. Brian Hollett. He has an extensive musical background, and is ready to take on the new year! Mr. Hollett started playing the french horn in marching band his senior year of high school and immediately “fell in love with music.” After high school, he went to the University of Redlands, where he received his Bachelor of Music in Education. “Feeling young and inexperienced,” Mr. Hollett enlisted in the Marine Corps Band. His first duty station was in New Orleans, and when his opportunity came to re-enlist he traveled to Hawaii where he completed his eight years in the service. When he returned from from Hawaii he went back to the University of Redlands to receive his teaching credential and Master of Music in Horn Performance.
Mr. Hollett has been involved in the Redlands Symphony, playing fourth horn for several seasons. Soon after that, he got his first teaching job in East Los Angeles at Woodrow Wilson High School. During his time there, he achieved getting the band from last place at LAUSD competitions to second place, in just five years!
Mr. Hollett said his first impression of REV is that, “ It is a tight knit community with a lot of school pride! It has been a fun place to get to know and to work at.” When asked who his biggest inspiration was he said, “My biggest inspiration has been my teachers, although I started late in my musical journey they have always been there to encourage, teach, and guide me. They have been my biggest fans and supporters.” Mr. Hollett was asked what he would like to accomplish in his first year and his response was, “I hope to be able to uphold the strong musical tradition here at REV, and build on the great accomplishments of this school. I hope to add new and innovative ideas to prepare kids more for their own musical journeys.”

Mr. Hollett has gotten a lot of backlash from the band kids, however he is doing great at his new job.
