Wildcat Fun Run starts and finishes with success

Redlands East Valley High School’s Cross Country team held their first Alumni and Staff “Fun Run” on Aug. 25. This consisted of a three mile course that went around the school’s campus.

Runners of all ability levels and walkers showed up at 7:30 a.m. to check in and get their race bibs at the start/finish line. One could feel the excitement on the starting line as the runners prepared to take off on the challenging three mile course.

The race started with a fast-pace from the current team, alumni, and the staff members who participated. There were awards waiting for the first place alumni, first place staff, and first place in all grade levels.

The first alumni to finish was Matt Sartori, who ran for and graduated from REV in 2007. The first staff member to finish was Mrs. Chann. The other staff members who participated were Mrs. Luther, Coach Bruich, and Mrs. Mercado. Coming down the last hill onto the track to finish, Coach Bruich said, “I can’t feel my legs!”

The whole event proved to be a success. The head coach, Andrea Johnson said, “I don’t know why I never did one in the past. It was so much fun seeing alumni as well as seeing the staff join in on this event. Looking forward to next year. It will be bigger and better.”
