Column: NFL Season Takes Care of Unfinished Business

By Ryan Aranda
It’s the most wonderful time of the year… for football fans, such as myself. The 2015-2016 NFL season is finally among us, which means Sundays full of intense action, fantasy scores and much more.

Last season, the New England Patriots were victorious in earning the Vince Lombardi Trophy of Super Bowl XLIX with much controversy. However this year, I feel that a certain team will get the revenge they deserve.

The New England Patriots defeated the Indianapolis Colts in the AFC Divisional Playoffs of 2015 in convincing fashion with a final score of 43-22. However, soon after the matchup, New England was found guilty of purposely deflating multiple footballs that would lead to their advantage in the game. While the Patriots were punished for their actions, they still ended the season with a Super Bowl victory.

The Patriots may have been victorious last year, but this season I feel that the Indianapolis Colts will finally get their revenge on New England and the AFC. With the new additions of RB Frank Gore and WR Andre Johnson, the Colts offense looks unstoppable. While the Colts gained these Pro-Bowl level players, the Patriots lost key players such as starting RBs Shane Vereen and Stevan Ridley due to free agency. Look for the Colts to be the ultimate winners of the AFC.

However, in the NFC, I feel that there won’t be much change among the conference standings. Last season, the Seattle Seahawks defeated the Green Bay Packers in arguably the best game of the season. The Seahawks, led by quarterback Russell Wilson, earned the victory in overtime, securing their spot in Super Bowl XLIX with a final score of 28-22. However, they would eventually lose to the Patriots in the biggest game of the year after a controversial play call towards the end of the event. This season, with the new additions of special teams star Tyler Lockett, CB Cary Williams, and one of the best tight ends in the league, Jimmy Graham, the Seahawks will be better than ever before. Along with the newly improved offense, Seattle also upgraded on what was already the best defense in the league, known as “The Legion of Boom,” led by defensive stars CB Richard Sherman and FS Earl Thomas. Seattle is my pick to win the NFC this upcoming season.

In my opinion, the 2015-2016 NFL Season will conclude with a Seattle Seahawks victory in Super Bowl L over the Indianapolis Colts.
